Jacob Newman was able to fix a problem that I had with my HVAC fan. I was expecting to have to replace the fan motor but it turned out that the system schematic sheet had come loose and been sucked into the fan. This created a loud sound that sounded like the fan was going out. However, pulling the sheet from the fan fixed the problem. He was very courteous and knowledgeable. Thanks Jacob.

We had a 2.5-ton 80/20 split unit installed today just after ordering it last night with help from Jacob Newman. Sebastian, Tristan, and a helper who came with them were extremely courteous, friendly, and helpful. They explained everything that they were going to be doing during the installation. You could tell that had done this kind of installation enough that they probably could do it in their sleep. I showed them where the access was in the master bedroom closet and I apologized because the access opening was small. They looked and said it was nothing that hadn't seen before. Then each one started on their different task. They had to remove a closet shelf and trim around the access opening for clearance issues once they had taken measurements, (asked if it was okay before they removed anything) and replaced it like new. They all worked like machines when the outside unit was completed they came and helped the other to remove the old split unit and replace the new unit in the attic. They cleaned up any mess in the areas where they worked and looked proud of the work they had accomplished. They double-checked everything to make sure that it worked perfectly. Excellent workers especially as hot as it was in the attic. I want to also give Hep a big thank you for hiring veterans. Being a former Marine hiring veterans is always a big plus for me in any business. I thank you guys a lot.

HVAC Unit Replacement in Cleveland: How HEP Ensures Year-Round Comfort

Residents of Greater Cleveland experience weather extremes that range from frigid lake-effect snowstorms to humid, sweltering summer afternoons. A dependable, efficient HVAC system is more than a luxury; it is a necessity for health, safety, and everyday comfort. HEP specializes in professional heating and air conditioning HVAC unit replacement, bringing modern technology and meticulous craftsmanship to homes throughout Northeast Ohio.

Understanding Cleveland’s Climate Challenges

Cleveland’s location on Lake Erie introduces several environmental factors that influence HVAC performance and longevity:

  • Wide temperature swing between January lows near single digits and July highs in the 90s
  • High humidity levels in summer, taxing air conditioning condensers
  • Wind-driven lake-effect snow that can clog exhaust vents and strain combustion systems
  • Salt-laden air that accelerates corrosion of outdoor components

These conditions shorten equipment life spans and elevate energy consumption. An older furnace or air conditioner designed ten or fifteen years ago operates at significantly lower efficiency than today’s advanced systems. Upgrading through HEP reduces operating costs and stabilizes indoor comfort even when weather turns severe.

Why Timely HVAC Replacement Matters

Procrastinating on a replacement commonly leads to compounding issues:

  • Escalating utility bills caused by deteriorating heat exchangers, compressor inefficiency, or refrigerant leaks
  • Decreased indoor air quality due to worn blower motors, dirty coils, and duct leakage
  • Increased risk of complete system failure during peak demand, turning small inconveniences into emergency situations
  • Safety concerns such as carbon monoxide infiltration from cracked heat exchangers or electrical shorts in aging condenser wiring

HEP’s technicians analyze each home’s unique situation, helping property owners move from reactive repair cycles to proactive replacement solutions that deliver dependable performance for the next decade and beyond.

Signs Your Heating or Air Conditioning System Needs Upgrading

While sudden breakdowns are obvious, subtler indicators often appear months before a critical failure:

  • More frequent repair visits and replacement parts
  • Uneven temperature distribution between floors or rooms
  • Excessive dust accumulation pointing to airflow or filtration problems
  • Loud banging, rattling, or grinding sounds from furnaces or outdoor units
  • Cycling on and off repeatedly (short cycling)
  • Noticeable spikes on energy bills without a change in usage patterns
  • Equipment age exceeding 12–15 years for air conditioners and 15–20 years for gas furnaces

Recognizing these symptoms early enables scheduled replacement on the homeowner’s timeline, avoiding rushed decisions during extreme weather events.

HEP’s Comprehensive Replacement Process

HEP follows a meticulous step-by-step methodology to ensure each Cleveland installation meets the highest standards of efficiency, safety, and performance.

Detailed Load Calculation and System Sizing

Rule-of-thumb sizing leads to oversized or undersized systems, higher energy costs, and premature wear. HEP completes Manual J load calculations that factor:

  • Building orientation and window placement
  • Insulation levels in walls, attics, and basements
  • Local design temperatures specific to Cleveland’s climate zone
  • Air infiltration rates, fireplace usage, and appliance gains

Precise sizing guarantees that new equipment runs at optimal capacity, maintains steady humidity control, and avoids short cycling.

Selection of High-Efficiency Equipment

HEP offers a range of ENERGY STARÂŽ qualified solutions, including:

  • 98% AFUE modulating gas furnaces for superior winter efficiency
  • Variable-speed inverter air conditioners reaching up to 20+ SEER2 ratings
  • Dual-fuel hybrid systems combining heat pump technology with gas backup, ideal for shoulder seasons in Cleveland
  • Packaged rooftop units for townhouses or loft conversions requiring space-saving designs

Technicians walk homeowners through performance differences, allowing an informed decision aligned with comfort expectations and energy goals.

Ductwork Evaluation and Optimization

Even the most advanced HVAC unit underperforms when connected to leaky, undersized, or dirty ducts. HEP’s replacement scope commonly includes:

  • Sealing connections with mastic or aerosol-based duct sealing technology
  • Adding or resizing return air pathways to prevent static pressure spikes
  • Replacing damaged or uninsulated flexible duct runs
  • Installing balancing dampers for precise airflow distribution

Addressing ductwork simultaneously with equipment replacement maximizes system efficiency and improves room-by-room comfort.

Indoor Air Quality Enhancements Integrated With Replacement

Modern HVAC installations serve as a platform for healthier indoor environments:

  • High-MERV or HEPA media filters block fine particulates and seasonal allergens
  • UV-C germicidal lights neutralize mold spores and bacteria on cooling coils
  • Dedicated ventilation units reclaim heat while introducing fresh air, critical for tightly sealed Cleveland homes

HEP integrates these upgrades seamlessly, eliminating the need for separate installations later on.

Smart Thermostat Integration for Modern Cleveland Homes

Wi-Fi-enabled thermostats adapt to occupancy patterns, local weather forecasts, and utility demand events. HEP configures:

  • Remote temperature monitoring for vacation properties
  • Geofencing to reduce energy use when occupants leave
  • Advanced zoning control allowing personalized comfort in finished basements, attics, or additions

Through replacement, homes gain an intelligent comfort ecosystem that evolves with occupant lifestyles.

Energy Efficiency and Utility Savings

Cleveland homeowners often see immediate reductions on monthly bills after an HEP replacement thanks to:

  • Higher AFUE and SEER2 ratings translating into lower fuel and electricity consumption
  • Variable-speed compressors and blower motors that modulate output rather than operate at full power continuously
  • Tight duct sealing preventing conditioned air losses into attics or crawlspaces
  • Smart thermostats reducing runtime during unoccupied hours

These savings add up over a system’s life span, frequently offsetting a significant portion of the installation cost.

Environmental Benefits of Modern HVAC Units

High-efficiency systems cut greenhouse gas emissions in two primary ways:

  • Burning less natural gas or consuming less electricity from fossil-fuel power plants
  • Incorporating environmentally friendlier refrigerants with lower global warming potential

HEP’s team helps homeowners understand the carbon footprint reduction associated with each equipment choice, aligning comfort goals with broader sustainability objectives.

The Role of Heat Pumps in Northeast Ohio

Advances in cold-climate heat pumps have redefined what is possible in regions once thought too cold for efficient electric heating. Features that make them viable in Cleveland include:

  • Variable-speed inverter technology maintaining output at outdoor temperatures well below freezing
  • Vapor injection compressors increasing capacity without resorting to energy-hungry electric resistance heat strips
  • Intelligent defrost cycles that minimize ice buildup and maintain steady airflow

In many homes, HEP designs dual-fuel systems pairing a high-efficiency gas furnace with an electric heat pump. The heat pump handles mild spring and fall temperatures at minimal cost, while the furnace automatically engages during lake-effect cold snaps.

Gas Furnaces vs. Electric Heating: Tailored Recommendations

HEP evaluates utility rates, building envelope characteristics, and homeowner preferences before recommending:

  • High-efficiency condensing gas furnaces where natural gas infrastructure is readily available and competitively priced
  • All-electric systems in neighborhoods pursuing decarbonization or where gas service is unavailable
  • Dual-fuel combinations balancing comfort, economy, and ecological considerations

Each proposal lists anticipated annual operating costs and carbon output, clarifying the benefits unique to each Cleveland household.

Air Conditioning Options for Lake-Effect Summers

HEP offers multiple cooling strategies to combat muggy Great Lakes summers:

  • Two-stage or variable-speed condensers that ramp up gradually, removing latent humidity more effectively than single-stage models
  • High SEER2 split systems with matching indoor coil upgrades
  • Ductless mini-split units providing zone-specific cooling for bonus rooms, sunrooms, or homes lacking existing ductwork

Better humidity control not only elevates comfort but also protects woodwork, musical instruments, and electronics from moisture-related damage.

Seamless Installation Day With HEP

A well-organized installation process minimizes disruption and ensures long-term satisfaction. Typical day-of activities include:

  • Protective floor coverings and corner guards to safeguard interior finishes
  • Removal and environmentally responsible disposal or recycling of old equipment
  • Fabrication of custom sheet-metal transitions for airtight connections
  • Precise refrigerant charging verified with digital manifolds and superheat/subcool calculations
  • Gas line leak checks and combustion analysis confirming safe operation

Installers document every measurement, photograph critical stages, and review system operation with homeowners before departure.

Post-Installation Testing and Commissioning

Quality control continues beyond equipment start-up:

  • Static pressure readings confirm duct optimization
  • Airflow balancing ensures even temperature distribution
  • Infrared camera scans reveal hidden duct leakage or insulation gaps
